Intellectual Properties of Music:
Music Theory by Harry Anthony (Righteouse)
Music Theory by Harry Anthony (Righteouse)
Making music that matters is important when the product targets the youth, wouldn't you agree? I often find that positive influence has become rarely expressed in song perhaps because strong sexuality and violent material is more marketable. My argument is to promote the intellectual properties of music and not overly-promoted, petty concepts. I do not dare suggest banning freedom of speech - A constitutional right which I believe makes our nation a great one - but, to influence a necessary balance would be more appropriate. I wrote an article, The War On Intellectualism, which in theory explains how a street reputation has become embedded in the music business, attempting to persuade and influence the music culture.
How convenient has it become for record companies to employ incoherent material that targets youth, who in my opinion, have not fully developed a sense of moral and ethical principles? Who should I insult when I say that rhetoric has not been practiced by some of our most influential Idols? Who would dare argue that although our constitution grants Americans the right to freedom of speech, the right has not been misconstrued by opportunists to cash in on our invaluable youth? I dare anyone who disagrees with me to question the majority of our youth who attend public schools: who is your favorite artist and why? Even if the answer you received seemed to have made some sense, it would be logical to measure the intention of your question, and the answer given. To point out the obvious, the fashion sense of this growing influence expresses a separate but functional popular trend. Popularity in an intellectual sense, is how genres combine to create a not so indifferent sound which supports my independent theory, one I welcome debate on when i state: all music sounds the same.
The time for innovation is now. The not so perfect perception of popularity needs to be challenged by new ideas. Poetic, intelligent, sensual, and revolutionary ideas should be embedded in today's music. I have been motivated to inspire a new age of creativity, to see expression that goes beyond practical knowledge. How can we inspire people who do more than what is required academically with music that sounds like it fails to reach the standards of intellectualism? As our society advances intellectually, so should the influences within society to challenge old but not so creative Ideas such as, pop culture that expresses effortless talent. I feel that all music sounds the same because the influences have not changed. Some of the most common influences of music are: the fraudulent overcoming of adversities, religion - which in most cases I find to be contradicting testimonials, sexuality, violence and crime glorification. I received a message on my YouTube channel promoting a nine year old girl as the best rapper, the idea alone is suggesting she is advanced in the art of Poetry. The worst representation in my opinion, of the music industry is "American Idol", as if they are to be symbolized as an American Phenomenon. I much rather consider George Washington Carver - a scientist who founded over 300 uses for the peanut, soybean, and sweet potato which changed the history of American agriculture - an American Idol (Google him). Of course, he is not a recording artist but he can inspire pride in the life of many recording artists globally. I will accept any criticism on my current project which you can find on my website: www.TeamBalisong.com
