I've decided to write this article in response to some posts and updates I've been seeing on various social media sites praising dysfunction. What is it about dysfunction that is so appealing? Am I not allowed to challenge commonly accepted views and opinions? May I take a few shots at the modern behaviors which violate almost every philosopher's code of ethics? What do I mean by "man code"?
I am not an expert, but I am a great observer. What I find particularly interesting is the absence of logic and ethics in most of our daily human interaction. So, for my female readers I will offer an evolution of male behavior to look forward to, as I begin to explain the diluted function of today's man and what I believe is a possible solution to reviving and advancing masculine culture.
How is a man truly defined ? I ask this question to provoke a natural and immediate opinion. Depending on your perception, you've already come up with one of many definitions. As man strived to achieve better understanding of self throughout the ages, there are many scholars who also devoted their lives to this very subject. Shakespeare asked, "To be, or not to be: that is the question." This was the opening phrase of a soliloquy in the nunnery scene of Hamlet. Another quote also comes to mind, one by Napoleon Hill which states, "The starting point of all achievement is DESIRE. Keep this constantly in mind." Robert Greene offered us this, in his work The 48 Laws of Power: "When you show yourself to the world and display your talents, you naturally stir all kinds of resentment, envy, and other manifestations of insecurity... you cannot spend your life worrying about the petty feelings of others." It becomes obvious as I research the writings of brilliant minds that they have all given us hints and direction on how to improve our lives. I can highlight similar quotes all day until I'm blue in the face, but the bottom line here is the code to which we must adhere in order to further our endeavors is hidden in plain sight.
Please pardon my direct approach to educating the male gender here. To what standards do you hold yourself and for others you deal with on a regular basis? The only thing that separates man from beast is our ability to rationally create and follow rules and conditions (a code of standards) via intellectual thought process and environmental awareness (cognition). The less strict our standards are, the more likely it is that we are to behave like animals. To the men reading this who have always held their standards high, you will relate to me on a different level. My favorite quote from Aristotle is, "Man is a goal seeking animal. His life only has meaning if he is reaching out and striving for his goals." This quote sums up everything I have said. From a broader perspective, another way to look at it is to picture man as an adventurer.

Men today, though, are seemingly more interested in exploring new excuses to do nothing. The closest adventure might be a movie on Netflix, a six pack of beer, or both at once! Why? To celebrate the downsizing of confidence in our fast-paced society? Today's conditions demand focus well beyond the traditional method to reach healthy financial goals. Noticeably, the roles of many men in society seem to be changing. A vast number of women are stepping up to the plate to become the more significant provider for the family. This is not a temporary trend, and I'm not saying it's wrong either, but it is certainly a change worth noticing.
How can having standards affect life experiences, and make for better decision making? I don't have to tell you about all the nonsense I see all over social media, you already have an idea of where I can go with that, not to mention the dysfunctional lack of integrity that goes along with the territory. A lot of young girls are engaging in ridiculous behavior by allowing young men who have no goals to get involved with them romantically. Both men and women are lowering their standards, and in the process of doing so (without opposition), they are branching out to engage in other dysfunctional activities. Too many of these young girls are excited to be involved in meaningless relationships with "men" that have no goals, no drive, and sometimes no income.
A man naturally seeks to upgrade, so in today's society, where we are seeing men who have no standards and no code to live by, these instincts are lost to the environment. I don't expect many people to agree with what I am saying here, and that's OK
. Rather than automatically dismiss me, I would ask that you evaluate my thoughts for yourself and come up with your own conclusion. My intent is to open up a discussion that we should all be having, which only demands a common sense point of view and a desire for society to continue its upward path.
